Calaveras - Ready to Ship

After living a year in El Paso, I recognize the incredibly impact the city and culture of that city has had on me. The importance of family, hard work, and good food were just some of the things I was blessed to experience as part of the Mexican-American culture. One celebration to honor and celebrate those who have passed on is something special that has stuck with me. Understanding the way that altars are created to connect with relatives on Dia de los Muertos was an important part to the life in El Paso, and the bright colors of calaveras (the skulls that typically decorate these altars - in other words known as Sugar Skulls) remind me to celebrate life and death and love the ones who have come before and the ones who will come after. While it may not be a traditional "Halloween" color in the U.S., Calaveras will forever be a part of my idea of halloween and why we celebrate.
